島根県出雲市を拠点に、放置船舶の再生を通じた国際人道支援を展開する「NPO法人ボートブリッジアジア」（代表理事：渡部 洋）は、2026年7月、国内の港湾における社会的課題である「放置艇・退役船」を高度な修復技術によって蘇らせ、東南アジアや太平洋の離島諸国（フィリピン、パラオ、ミクロネシア等）へ無償譲渡する人道支援プロジェクト『Project KATIG（カティグ）』を本格始動いたしました。
本プロジェクトの最大のイノベーションは、島根の産学官の知恵と技術を結集した「次世代ハイブリッド船舶（クリーンエネルギー化）」の共同開発体制の構築にあります。
私たちは、地元の高等教育機関（工業高等専門学校）が有する最先端の船舶工学技術と、地域を牽引する次世代のEV（電気自動車）・ITイノベーション企業が持つ電動モビリティ技術を融合させる三者共創の枠組みを進めています。
役目を終え、港に眠っていたFRP船等の船体を美しくアップサイクルし、環境負荷を極限まで低減したクリーンな動力システムや、現地離島で最も深刻な「真水不足」を解消するための船上での海水純水化システムを共同研究・開発することを目指しています。
さらに、JICA（国際協力機構）やJETRO（日本貿易振興機構）をはじめとする国際機関との強力な連携・協力を視野に入れ、島根発の技術と情熱を、世界的な人道支援の標準モデルへと昇華させるべく活動を強化してまいります。
また、本法人は「誰も置き去りにしない」持続可能な地域福祉循環モデルを自走型ビジネスとして実装している点が大きな特徴です。
出雲市多伎町の「塩炊き小屋」において、地域の障がいを持つ仲間たちと共に、日本海の豊かな海水を汲み上げて伝統の手作り塩「多伎 塩の華（藻塩・白塩）」を製造し、福祉就労の場と安定した雇用を創出しています。
この活動の具体的な社会還元として、直近の2026年6月30日には、出雲市社会福祉協議会様を通じて、市内の子ども食堂や福祉現場へ計20kgの極上塩を無償提供（寄付）いたしました。
地域の雇用を生み出し、その成果で地元の宝である子どもたちの食事を支え、さらにその事業収益を船舶の再生・海外派遣費用へと充てるという循環を生み出しています。
現在、私たちの理念に深く共感した船のオーナー様たちから「眠っている船舶を世界の命を救うために役立ててほしい」という放置船の提供依頼がすでに複数寄せられており、実務的なリペア準備が進行しています。私たちは今、この最初の1隻を海へ浮かべ、アジア太平洋の離島へと繋ぐ航路を切り拓くため、クラウドファンディング（READYFOR）の挑戦において資金調達を行っています。島根の小さな塩炊き小屋から始まり、世界の海を越えて人命を救うこの壮大な人道支援プロジェクトの本格始動を公式に発表いたします。

NPO Boat Bridge Asia (CEO: Yo Watanabe), an international humanitarian organization based in Izumo City, Shimane, Japan, has officially launched "Project KATIG" in July 2026. This groundbreaking project addresses a critical coastal issue in Japan by taking abandoned and decommissioned boats from domestic ports, restoring them using specialized engineering techniques, and donating them free of charge to remote island nations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific (such as the Philippines, Palau, and Micronesia). These upcycled vessels will serve as "life-saving rescue boats" and school transit for isolated communities severely impacted by typhoons.
The core innovation lies in the establishment of a tripartite collaborative framework to develop "Next-Generation Hybrid Vessels" utilizing clean energy. We are currently building a partnership uniting a local technical college (Kosen) and a leading regional EV & IT innovation firm. By combining advanced academic engineering expertise with private-sector electric mobility technologies, this joint research initiative aims to transform dormant FRP boat hulls into eco-friendly, low-emission vessels. The collaboration also targets the co-development of onboard seawater purification systems to resolve severe freshwater shortages. Furthermore, by seeking cooperation with global organizations such as JICA and JETRO, the NPO is positioning this regional innovation from Shimane to become a worldwide standard for international humanitarian aid.
In addition, Project KATIG is highly distinct for its self-sustaining business model rooted in an inclusive local welfare cycle. At our traditional salt-making facility in Taki Town, Izumo City, we produce premium handmade sea salt called "Tagi Shio no Hana" (Moshio seaweed salt and white sea salt), working hand-in-hand with local individuals with disabilities to provide meaningful employment. Demonstrating the immediate social impact, on June 30, 2026, the NPO successfully donated a total of 20kg of this artisan salt to local children's cafeterias (Kodomo Shokudo) through the Izumo City Social Welfare Council. This forms a system where local employment bolsters community children's health, and the commercial revenues fund the physical restoration of humanitarian vessels.
Resonating deeply with our mission, we have already received multiple offers from boat owners wishing to donate their unused vessels, and preparations for their restoration are progressing rapidly. To launch the very first restored vessel and open up international shipping routes, we are currently driving a vital crowdfunding campaign on the READYFOR platform to secure operational funds. We officially announce the grand launch of this far-reaching humanitarian voyage that connects a small salt-making community in Shimane to the global stage, saving lives across the ocean.
